Our History

Founded in Weston-super-Mare in 1906, John Hodge & Co expanded by acquiring Baker & Co in 1937, a family practice established in 1777 by Samuel Baker. In 1914, we then opened a branch in Yatton, and in more recent years we have expanded to Wedmore and Clevedon, later acquiring the offices of Borrough, Horner and Pigot in Wedmore and J  R Brown & Co. in Clevedon. In 1990, we acquired Nichols Strickland and later Palmer Hart in Bristol. In 2021 we opened an office at North Petherton to serve Bridgwater and the surrounding area, extending our services to clients across Bristol and Somerset.

We are proud of the fact that the vast majority of our clients come to us as referrals from previous and existing satisfied clients who trust us to advise their friends and families. We remain independent of larger organisations and agencies by refusing to pay referral fees to insurance companies, claims management companies or estate agents. When any of them refer clients to John Hodge Solicitors the referral is on merit and not for a fee.
